Yup. I admit it. I have a deadline looming. In one week I will turn the house over to the house sitter and rocket down the 5 to set up for The Contemporary Craft Market in Santa Monica. Am I sit-back-and-cool-you-jets ready? NO. Do I feel compelled to clean windows and floors? YES. I don't know why this phenomenon begins to creep in...perhaps it is the beginning of our rainy season...I don't know. I also don't know why I feel that I have to confess it, other than this keeps me from doing what I know must be done...finish that sleeve, ply that yarn, start that last fast jacket...but it's still gloomy outsiiiiiiiiiide.
Oh, speaking of Outside...when I dragged myself and the Thundering Herd out of the bedroom (no, they do NOT sleep on the bed!) this morning, I began the rituals involved with the shortening of the days...getting up in the dark and turning on lights as I move through the house. The last light to go on is the outside light for the back yard, so that my big black canine children can go for their morning pee. When turning on THIS light I stopped the ritualistic movements right there and then. Lo and behold...there they were, like brown ghosts...Dambi and her sister Pambi, blinking in the sudden brightness, turning their backs and jumping through the bushes whose death I was blaming on a certain dog OR gopher...grrrrrrrr. It was too easy for them, these tomato chomping girls. I paused, watching them disappear from sight, counted to 5 and then let the dogs out. They bee-lined toward what they could only see with their snouts, the invisible ghost scents of the deer sisters. Yeah, bark all that you want...the twins that were brought here years ago by their now dead mama, Mrs. Agresso (she would chase down my 130 pound Sasha) are here in the darkeness before dawn. Give up the idea of having vegetable garden, Lisa. The gopher and deer are laughing at you from their hidey holes.
The floor is clean, the kitchen window is clean, this has been written and I have no choice but to go knit.
To the stuff twisting in the artificial wind of the fan in the bathroom I say, DRY, damn you!
Hey...maybe I should bake something...
Sure, bake some bread...then you can 'work' while it is rising, knead it and put it in bread pan, 'work' while it is rising again, put bread in preheated oven and set timer, work while it is baking and then set it out when done and have lovely hot bread with butter and maybe some soup or fruit.........

Nancy, Nancy, Nancy...now you are killing me OR giving me an idea! Yeah, bread...loaves and loaves of the things. Yeah, that's the ticket. Should I drag out my bread machine? Ummm, let's see, I vote for the Trader Joe's Meyer Lemon Cake mix. Taste's home made and there is less time cleaning. I vote for THAT!

I'll bring you some Meyers from my tree and make it an honest cake...

Mind you, that would just be an excuse to come over and knit with you and keep you company while you got some work done. I can wish. Have a wonderful time down south!

If you decide to bake something, make it cashmere. Chocolate would be nice.
:-)

Oh Tommmmmmmm...it would be too stinky. :o)

You know of course that I sold out of every last inch of the chocolate cashmere before I was even hardly aware I had it. That leaves us with these inarguable facts:
1.) There are two very lucky people in this world who will soon be wearing chocolate cashmere. I'm not one of them.
2.) You must make more.
