Whenever I read that word in the horoscope I pull my hat down a little lower over my eyebrows and ears, figuring that it will probably require another Hunker Down session. Yes...bunker mentality, how rude! Yeah, this is the week that The Husband becomes a Retiree again (he retired from Prophane a few years ago, which is possible when you start working as a prophane jockey teenager) but this time it is just more real because the work that awaits is in the loosey-goosey world of contracting. Around here I call it The Unknown. Yeah, I have been holding up a brave front and talk about all of that Cork-on-the-Ocean stuff but we are moving into a different phase of life now and like pimply teenagers facing parenthood, we are too young to be retired or considered seniors. Guh. I just KNOW that I had Bunker Mentality this past weekend because we went to Costco and spent a bunch of money and stocked the pantry and freezer in a manner that would make any professional housewife or squirrel proud. I started making those "well, I have stretched a quarter pound of hamburger for four meals and know how to eat Ramen until I am high on chemicals" noises from my days as a stay-at-home mom stretching one salary, in the car on the way home. I just think that it is the natural reaction...taking stock, hunkering down and seeing where you stand.
I dunno...I had to give a friend a speech about not dumping on herself and it actually was a peptalk for me as well. After getting off of the phone I just plain got busy. Now that the last show of the season is over I have to begin to put back all of those things that I put into boxes when I thought that I was going to have to get this place ready to sell. Time to get my life back! :o)
I give you this image of two of my furry friends trying to figure out where I have gone. That is Sugar Pie and Tank looking through my office window, a window colored by the refection of a very vibrant tree in its Autumn Finery. I was outside photographing something fun that came in the mail on Saturday. I immediately ordered 3 dozen because this is a heck of a lot more fun for the back of a car or van than a war magnet. Use pointy sticks, not bullets. :o)
Yeah, I am feeling better. Tell Saturn to shut up and go bug some mean people, eh? I got some yarn off of both of my favorite spinning helpers yesterday. The Spin-tech yielded the last skeins of the Joseph's Coat merino project that I could only get half done before Los Angeles. I made enough to satisfy Carol Ann and once she showed up on Friday, that was that. This is the rest.
I began spinning this fiber at the show in Santa Monica and finished it up on Friday night, getting the plying done on Sunday. It is 80/20 merino/cashmere in a colorway I call Mystere, with a nod to the Cirque name of the same. I like the combo of fibers because there is just enough of the cashmere to give the soft merino a sheen. Yum.
So, you see...no matter what happens to The Husband, I will be busy. Thank dog...
OK dear, you can't post the magnet without telling us where they come from. My car is, I fear, a bit preachy these days (village idiots, troops home ribbons, ACLU), and a little set of knitting needles would lighten the mood.

I got the magnet as a sample from the wholesaler. I have ordered a bunch of them and l will "alert the media" when they get here!

Glad you like the stapler, Lisa! In addition to Office Space, I get a kick out of the movie About Schmidt with Jack Nicholson. As somebody who can retire any time I want to, Warren Schmidt's disillusionment with life after he retires appeals to me as a cautionary tale.
