He is zonked in his bed right now and it is lovely to take a bit of an afternoon rest. Rod and I took The Schnickle and his Mama out to breakfast at the local Waffle Shop, where Junior Pancakes are bigger than your head. He made a pretty good stab at them, as well as both Mama and Grampy's sausage (this was new) and it gave him plenty of energy to clomp around in the South Fork of the American River this morning. If you haven't made it up to Coloma, on highway 49, I suggest it for a beautiful way to spend some time, whether poking around in the historic Sutter's Mill area (where the gold rush began), rafting, kayaking or just doing what people with 2 year olds do...put on the Keen's and walk around in the shallows where the Kayak instructors give their lessons on currents and bow rescue. I got a lot of education, sitting out on this GIANT outcropping of quartz where the river does a distinctive swirl.
Today was not so much about throwing plunk rocks into the river as it was about observing the kayakers and discovering how to walk in the shallow calm spot and how ice from the backpack could flow upstream in the eddy. Each time, there will be something new. For ME, it is about the brilliant sky and equally reflective river...geese flying in at about 6 feet overhead for a river landing. Clean air and crisp "wah-der".
I don't take MY camera to the river because I am enough of a klutz, dragging my stupid purse and kid stuff. The photos of new "clean out the spinning basket" yarn follow. I have to weigh and measure these guys before they go on the site but here you have...
1. Blue Faced Leicester plied with angora in the loamy version of Petroglyph.
2. Olive Tones merino plied with some natural reddish brown baby alpaca fleece.
3. Blue Faced Leicester in Aww-tum. (I just love this colorway)
Time to go wake little You-know-who...
Oh yes...one more thing. We got the notice this morning that we will be vendors at the Oregon Flock & Fiber Festival at the end of next month. What FUN! We get to drive up to visit with our Pacific Northwest friends and fondle fiber, all in the same fell swoop. This will be the first time we set up the canopy booth in a couple of years, for an outdoor booth! It should be quite the adventure.
Wow, three gorgeous new yarns to make my head spin. I think I'm going to have to have me some of that BFL/angora stuff.
I just love your handspuns. That's all.
Sounds like a pretty idyllic grandma grandpa kind of a day. Isn't it amazing how much fun it is!
