I would like to applaud the marvelous opening ceremonies of this Olympics in China. I was pretty ambivalent about watching the Olympics in general and wasn't really that keen on seeing what China had to offer but I found myself with my jaw dropping at the sheer mass of humanity taking part in these phenomenal theatrics. 2008 drummers...2008 rowers...no overlapping of individuals. When asked why, the creator said that what do they have the most of in China? People. PLENTY of people. How far this country of so many ethnic groups has come since the dark days of the Gang of Four...SO FAR! The artistry and technology gave one pause to believe that this country, politics aside, is coming back to itself. How proud the Chinese people must be of this event and while their pollution is still criminal, I hope that the games bring China together in a good way.
Now then, from there to here. Are your ears popping from such a speedy journey? Sorry to be so abrupt but consider it to be like the hyperspeed in a space movie. ZOOOOOOM...screech!
We have had a lot of visitors lately and it has been mighty nice. Thanks to Julie for bringing the generational female bookends of the family. We enjoyed meeting you, the girls and your amazing mom. (My mother is 4 years younger and a mess...Julies' mom is a PISTOL!)
Thanks to Angela for coming up with Cherie and for bringing your adorable little Mr Snailtrail with you. Grandma's like me, well...we love a sweet, drooly grin. Cherie is taking on the challenge set up by Julie Sandell, when she spun up enough yarn on her SPINDLE to knit a sweater. SHUDDER I am just happy to see more of you spinning enough for a garment now because there is NOTHING quite as wonderful as a hand knit sweater from delicious handspun yarn! Ask me how I know...
Saturday morning was quite a lot of fun because we got to meet some fellow Placerville business people. The serendipity of the Small World theory got us right between the eyes. Rita and Steph were instructed to come up here to pick out some sock yarn, by Rita's oldest friend, Joyce, who found me through some convoluted way on Ravelry. It was one of those Boing moments but these days I just say Thank You to the Universe and put one foot in front of the other. Joyce had promised the girls that she would knit socks for them but had not gotten around to choosing yarn, when she found out that I lived here. PERFECT, says she...the rest is history.
It turns out that Steph and Rita are the inkeepers of the Albert Shafsky House, which is a beautiful Victorian Bed&Breakfast a block from town. The other funny coincidence is that one of my favorite customers from Los Angeles stays at this place every Thanksgiving weekend. SMALL WORLD! We also found out that Steph is a total steam train geek, like Rod...too funny. Thanks for the visit!
Lisa
It's me, Joyce. Fun to see Rita and Steph and the yarn they have picked out. I'm excited to get going on the socks....can't wait to get your yarn in my hands!

I was very ambivalent about watching the opening ceremonies too and saw only a small part of it late at night. I was overwhelmed by it... those drummers... I do not have a rhythmic bone in my body so to see 2008 drummers do the exact same thing at the exact same moment is amazing :)
So there are (stress that word) people who spin enough yarn on a spindle to make a sweater with... I found some batts that I can spin on my spindle without driving me batty and a tiny part of my brain was thinking of spinning a sweater's worth of the stuff... but I decided to try it on the wheel first hehehe.
Cheers Eva
